Monday's 2YO Racing Update

1:30 Hamilton -

Andrew Balding has a decent string and Happy Power won well when favourite on his second start over course and distance. Has to defy a win penalty, which doesn't seem to be easy to do. Personally, at short odds, I would take a watching brief.

2:20 Leicester -

Blue Battalion looked as slow as a snail on debut. Perhaps he will seem similarly slow after today. Time will. This son of Cityscape was 40/1 with bookmakers but more like 400/1 on Betfair. Clearly, someone had the opinion this two-year-old trained by John Gallagher had no chance. Beaten 80-lengths suggests they were right. Gallagher gave this horse an entry for the Convivial Stakes race. Perhaps he wanted to get a trainers and owners badge for the day! It is interesting why he gave this colt such an entry. Although unlikely it is possible he disappointed on debut and has ability. It is a leap of faith. I image you will get incredible odds on Betfair. If you see odds of 999/1, may be worth a small each-way just for the hell of it.

7:00 Newcastle -

Saeed bin Suroor's Al Mureib is one of few horses noted by the trainer whose juveniles have been in fine form this season. Just denied last time out when a beaten favourite. Deserves respect.

John Gosden has Turgenev who was fancied on debut at Doncaster. This bay colt was no match for Saeed bin Suroor's Royal Marine who is clearly a class act (detailed on our 10 Dark Horse Mailing). There were a few talents in that race and from will be franked.

Looks a battle between the pair.
