Monday's 2YO Update

A quiet start to proceedings with just one two-year-old race on the cards.

4:30 Kempton -

Al Mureib is feeling like hard work for punters as he is yet to get his head in front in five starts. This Irish-bred son of Dubawi is a fair juvenile who has achieved an official rating of 84. That is plenty good enough to win most Stakes races but unfortunately, there has always been one or two opponents to deny this March foal. A beaten favourite on three starts. Only fifth last time out when competing at nursery class for the first time but just over three lengths. Just one of eleven two-year-old to be given a significant entry for Saeed bin Suroor. Bar a couple of horses this looks a weak affair. If touching each-way prices has claims. A wide draw isn't ideal if pushed wide. Always fearful that a horse with a few hard races may regress at some point.

Stan Moore has had a lean year with his two-year-olds. A minimal number of runners and very limited. Delta Bravo was given a Class 2 stakes race entry which suggests connections held some hope of ability. A 66/1 shot on both starts to date, the debut in a hot Stakes race (Class 2). The winner, Fashion's Star, is a bright talent, while others have franked the form. This bay filly showed little when stepping up in trip to race over 1m 2f at Bath. It is unlikely, but not impossible, this daughter of Mastercraftsman has an element of hope at huge odds. The debut effort (more entry) gives a hint of ability, while the trip at Bath may have been too much. Also, horses can disappoint on their first and second start. I wouldn't hold my breath, but when a horse will be price 200/1 on Betfair (perhaps) there may be some argument for a speculative each-way bet. A low draw is a positive. Not been seen for a month. On balance, a mountain to climb. (Taking another look, needs a miracle).

Al Mureib 7/4 2nd
Delta Bravo 66/1 7th

Note: Al Mureib may have been slightly inconvenienced by the wide draw and forcing him to lead. Didn't do too much wrong but a frustrating horse finishing in second place. Delta Bravo is limited and will be given a low mark for nursery races.
