Wednesday's 2YO Update (21st November)

A busy day, so I will try to keep this brief.

5:10 Kempton -

Roger Charlton's Headman makes a return after a stylish victory on debut. This son of Kingman ran out an easy winner at Newcastle over one mile. Drops back a furlong today and has to give away seven pounds in weight. The penalties can be hard work for the best of horses. A wide draw is another negative to be considered. However, if connections have lofty dreams, they will most surely be expecting a win.

Headman 4/9f 2nd

Note: Time may tell Headman was beaten by a talent. It is never easy to defy these win penalties and, perhaps, unlucky to bump into another good juvenile.

The only significantly-entered two-year-old on the day.

I will post this now, as I don't think you will be missing too much.

Just noticed this entrant, too (thanks, Craig).

5:40 Kempton -

Global Spectrum. Difficult to know what to think about Gay Kelleway's debutante as most of her two-year-olds have been limited this season. This bay colt is well bred, well owned and cost 130,000 guineas at the breeze-up sales. A wide draw isn't ideal. The main interest is the price. Bookies have this horse at 22/1. It may be the case it drifts out to 50/1. Conversely, it may be backed. I will have a small each-way bet if touching huge odds on the exchanges and cross my fingers.

Global Spectrum 16/1 1st

Note: What do we keep saying...another easy winner at huge odds. Touched 25 on the exchanges. Remember Group Horse details horses of the highest standard that win.

Full result: Global Spectrum WINS!!!!!!!!!

All readers should thank Craig for this because I had missed it and it wouldn't have been on this page but I only added it as I had detailed Headman because it was odds-on.

Thursday's 2YO Update (1st November)

Not a bad day yesterday with Dalaalaat winning.

6:00 Newcastle -

Interesting. This is why you need to take note of Group Horse. It details potentially smart juveniles - before they have raced. Roger Charlton has a few nice prospects this season, especially the likes of Fashion's Star who we detailed on one of our 10 Dark Horse Mailings along with other gifted two-year-olds (most before debut). Headman has been on our radar for some time. This British-bred son of Kingman is out of a French-winning mare who raced just three times. Headman is definitely one of the better juveniles at Beckhampton House Stables. Most of Charlton's debutantes go well when starting favourite.

As I always say, there are few easy races. That point can be seen with another significantly entered horse in opposition. Repaupo has the advantage of two runs, setting the standard. This bay colt, a son of Quality Road, is owned and bred by George Strawbridge. Big odds-on backers may have shivers running down their spine as we reflect on his last defeat at 1/5f. The problem of betting prohibitive odds is that you can't really return from such a loss. Time may tell that he bumped into a rare talent in Tom Dascombe's Metatron who was fancied in the marked. Repaupo never looked like a winner that day and pushed along mid-division. By the time he found his stride, the winner had flown with Pegasus wings. Gosden's charge ran better on debut and he may simply have disappointed. There will be no excuses today.

Headman 8/13f 1st
Repaupo 15/8 2nd

Note: ''What did we say?'' Once again, Group Horse proves its class with an effortless less debut winner. Repaupo finishes second.

7:15 Wolverhampton -

Simon Crisford is a talented trainer. He is good at placing his juveniles. Aluqair was given a Class 2 Stakes race entry before his debut at Nottingham over 6f. This son of Kodiac run well considering he was hampered at the start. A touch of inexperience, too. The first four that day were clear of the fourth. Looks the type to put down a decent effort.

Aluquair 5/2 5th

Note: Well backed but ran a very disappointing race. Difficult to see in running but keen, which didn't help. I know riding a horse isn't easy but when going four wide on a turning course a Group Horse would struggle to win. A combination of factors details that this run is best forgotten. Much better than this which should be seen next time out.

Tuesday's 2YO Racing Update (9th October)

1:30 Catterick -

Archie Watson's Summer Blossom is as consistent as they come. Did nothing wrong last time out when leading for most and just outpointed in the closing stages. A battling type who is likely to try to lead. Deserves to taste victory. I'm always slightly concerned juveniles with a number of hard races may regress at some point. However, this daughter of Society Rock is a hearty type.

Summer Blossom 10/11f 3rd

3:00 Brighton -

Catan put in a bold show last time out for Roger Charlton. Backed from huge odds, no doubt a consequence of certain people knowing this colt was going to do front-running tactics. Under a weight penalty, he ran a sterling race being collared in the shadow of the post.

Catan 11/4 1st

Note: So pleased to see Royal Marine win at Longchamp, Group 1 Jean-Luc Lagardere for trainer Saeed bin Suroor at Longchamp, France on Sunday, 7 October. This colt was detailed on our 10 Dark Horse Mailing.

See what we said about Royal Marine.

Help share the success by sharing these posts.

Appreciated.

The more people given the harder I work.
