Archie Watson's Execlusive Trounces Opposition At Beverley

Another significantly entered two-year-old detailed by Group Horse trounces the opposition at Beverley. Archie Watson's juveniles have been in flying form all season and this bay filly is just one of four horses noted by us at this early stage of the season. All of those horses have not just won but thrashed the opposition on debut.

Execlusive is a March foal and sired by Kodiac in the ownership of Rabbah Racing. She looks a bargain yearling buy at just 40,000 guineas.

Touching as big as 11/4 on the exchanges, the late money come for the filly who led from a wide draw and pulled clear of the field in an easy fashion to win by over two lengths at 13/8f.

Archie Watson has led the way this season with his two-year-olds who are primed and ready to go well. The majority lead from the stalls and most they don't get caught.

Group Horse has detailed four two-year-olds from Archie Watson's stable at this time. They include:

Lady Kermit who has won two out of two starts this season and looks a very talented daughter of Starspangledbanner.

Electric Ladyland who had similarly won both her two starts before disappointing at Chester when hindered by a wide draw in the Lily Agnes Stakes.

In addition, Littledidyouknow has won two starts to date.

All of these youngsters are likely to be heading to Royal Ascot 2019.

The Element of Fickledom

People make me smile.

You know, they say women are fickle. I am not sure who ''they'' are and I'm sure men are as fickle as f*** at times.

We send out a mailing detailing a talented horse in Firepower, trained by Clive Cox, winning the 4:55 Salisbury.

Guess what?

Seven people unsubscribe. You have to laugh, hey. I'm sure all of those people have their reasons but if that's what success does then perhaps I'm in the wrong job. Yes, people can believe that. I know exactly what I'm doing and I don't need anyone's plus or minus to appreciate that fact. Perhaps I should just talk about horse racing in the United States and consider the Belmont Race odds for a change of tune.

Bizarre.

I was pleased with the performance of Firepower. They had the annoying split screen on the race which makes assessing the horses and race problematic. However, the colt is a decent looker and won ''readily'' as far as the Racing Post is concerned. I had more information about why this juvenile would be hard to beat but I couldn't detail that as it isn't in my interests.

Thank the Lord I do all these things to please myself because this is a thankless world where the takers take in abundance.

Sorry, if that offends anyone but for a few people that's the score. As my good friend Eric Winner says: ''There are too many takers...''

The number 7 means completion. So I'm taking a positive from those lesser disciples.

I really couldn't care if 700 people disappeared because I don't make a brass farthing out of the 1000 subscribers on my list.

Thanks for those who appreciate. Your interest is my motivation.

Let's take a look at tomorrow's two juvenile races:

1:55 Musselburgh -

No significant entrant.

2:35 Lingfield -

This looks more interesting. Well, there are a few entrants who register on the Richter scale.

Strong Power ran well in the Brocklesby Stakes when runner-up to Show Me Show Me. George Scott is one of those trainers I struggle to get to grips with on the stat front. Certainly, he has plenty of two-year-olds who disappoint at relatively short odds when making their debut. I must admit I like this son of Kodiac. He did nothing wrong at Newmarket if not going a fraction too fast but he was simply trying to make his experience count and it was nearly the case. Touching big odds-on in running, few would have believed he would have been out of the frame. It looked a decent race. I can imagine connections trying to lead all the way here. I thought at first glance this was on the all-weather, which, in my opinion, would have been a very good move. The horse to beat but there's always the worry someone will spoil the party.

Archie Watson's Illusionist doesn't have any significant entries at present but is in a betting guide which suggests this Irish-bred son of Hot Streak could be a live opponent.

Interesting to see how John Ryan's Sea Of Cool goes here. Silvestre De Silva has been booked and it is noteworthy this son of Sea The Stars was given a class 2 stakes entry. Most of his entered juvenile go on to win at two, which brings some interest. The downside is that very few of his two-year-olds win on debut. Could be a horse to keep an eye on the next two starts.

2yo Lady Kermit Heading to Royal Ascot for Archie Watson

Archie Watson has made a fast and furious start to the two-year-old season with a sparkling array of talent. In fact, he had four two-year-old debut winners in a span of just twelve days, leaving his peers wondering what is his secret.

Lady Kermit was one of those gifted two-year-olds. This bay filly, a daughter of Starspangledbanner was all the rage when backed to even-money favourite on her debut at Kempton. Even a wide draw did little to hamper her precocity as she stormed to the rail and leading into the final furlong forged clear to win by an impressive six lengths. Clearly, the dogs hadn't been singing: ''Halfway up the stairs is a stair where I sit...'' as her reputation preceded this January foal.

Connections and backers alike weren't scared of this speedy filly carrying a win penalty or contesting the Ladbrokes Home Of The Odds Boost Fillies' Conditions Stakes (Plus 10 Race) over 5f. Lady Kermit was backed to 1/4f even though she had a previous winner in opposition [Chasanda] and eight debutantes, some who are very capable juveniles.

Lady Kermit led from start to finish and won a shade cosily by just under two lengths. She looks a classy filly who is likely to be heading to Royal Ascot. Watson detailed the Queen Mary Stakes (Group 2) is on the card this June.

Other two-year-old winners include Electric Ladyland, Exclusively & Lambeth Walk.

Monday's 2yo Racing Update

I must apologise for being quiet. I'm still working on the horse trainer statistics which are taking longer than expected. It is literally like painting the Forth bridge, with a dicky brush. The data is very interesting but it really is boring to complete. However, it is a job which needs doing and I will be doing my utmost to get the majority of it signed off this week. It has spurred me on because there are few two-year-old races these next four or five days.

I'm sure you have noticed a couple of two-year-old races for Monday.

2:00 Redcar -

I'm not going to write a great deal about either of these races as I much prefer to watch the early races. Archie Watson has got off to a decent start with a couple of winners and Exclusively is well owned. The betting details a big run is expected.

2:50 Windsor -

Brocklesby fourth place Dorchester Dom ran well enough on debut. The third horse that day, also trained by David Evans, won well at Leicester. I'm not keen on betting short prices at the best of times. This son of Starspangledbanner has valuable experience which counts for a lot against debutants. There's always the worry something will pop up and make the jolly backers not so happy.  Interesting to see how Richard Hannon's Lexington Quest goes. This son of Ivawood cost £32,000 at the yearling sales when purchased to by Peter & Ross Doyle Bloodstock (who buy a lot for Hannon). Now in the ownership of Middleham Park Racing. Worth noting this April foal (24th April, so not quite two) was given a Brocklesby Stakes entry. The sole entrant for Hannon. I think we have to go back to 2016 for the last time Hannon had a horse entered or run in the Brocklesby. In that year he had Tomily and Bismark The Flyer. Tomily won a couple of times at two and turned out to be a very talented gelding. Bismarck The Flyer won a couple of times at two, the first victory at selling class. Lexington Quest isn't without a chance here and I would take the Brocklesby entry as a positive.

Tuesday's Racing Update (2nd April)

Just a quick update. We have a couple of two-year-old races going today:

2:15 Musselburgh -

Looks a competitive heat. Interesting to see how Keith Dalgleish' Gina D'Cleaner goes. Doesn't look fancied in the betting but this daughter Equiano held an entry for the Brocklesby Stakes. However, the stable can win on debut at decent odds.

2:30 Lingfield -

A couple running here who made their debut in the Brocklesby Stakes: Birkenhead and Here We Go Again. Not a great deal between the two at Doncaster. Racecourse experience is a big advantage at this time of the year, especially on turning courses where runners are prone to racing wide. Interesting to see how Archie Watson's Electric Ladyland goes from a very wide draw. This Irish-bred daughter of Cable Bay has been quite well backed. This 35,000 euro yearling buy could well have ability, especially of interest if strongly fancied at the off.

Tuesday's 2YO Racing Update (9th October)

1:30 Catterick -

Archie Watson's Summer Blossom is as consistent as they come. Did nothing wrong last time out when leading for most and just outpointed in the closing stages. A battling type who is likely to try to lead. Deserves to taste victory. I'm always slightly concerned juveniles with a number of hard races may regress at some point. However, this daughter of Society Rock is a hearty type.

Summer Blossom 10/11f 3rd

3:00 Brighton -

Catan put in a bold show last time out for Roger Charlton. Backed from huge odds, no doubt a consequence of certain people knowing this colt was going to do front-running tactics. Under a weight penalty, he ran a sterling race being collared in the shadow of the post.

Catan 11/4 1st

Note: So pleased to see Royal Marine win at Longchamp, Group 1 Jean-Luc Lagardere for trainer Saeed bin Suroor at Longchamp, France on Sunday, 7 October. This colt was detailed on our 10 Dark Horse Mailing.

See what we said about Royal Marine.

Help share the success by sharing these posts.

Appreciated.

The more people given the harder I work.

Sunday's 2YO Racing Update

Just the one two-year-old race for Sunday.

2:00 Pontefract -

World Order has made hard work of winning, although achieved an official rating of 80. Trained by Declan Carroll, this son of Society Rock has raced five times. His first two starts saw narrow defeats to talented juveniles in No Lippy & Charming Kid, when beaten less than one length.

This April foal started at odds of 50/1 when competing in the Windsor Castle Listed race at Royal Ascot. Beaten just under ten lengths in fifteenth place. That pattern race being the only significant entry he has held, which may indicate a horse on the downgrade. Owners, Clipper Logistics, have a wealth of talented juveniles including Soldier's Call (pictured) who is trained by Archie Watson, the winner of this year's Windsor Castle. He ran creditably at Goodwood when third in the Markel Insurance Molecomb Stakes (Group 3).

World Order isn't in that league, although, at best, a talented juvenile who should have won by now.

He was far from disgraced when fourth at York over five and a half furlongs behind Chynna, tiring in the closing stages when 2/1 favourite.

The first attempt at nursery class didn't go too well when beaten into fourth place of six over the minimum trip at Thirsk. It was a mucky day, raining, and the going was on the soft side, although the time wasn't too slow. Broken Spear won the race in imperious style, while the others fought out their own places.

It's interesting to consider the chances of World Order on this sixth start. At best, he has enough ability to win a race of this class. However, you may be a brave soul to jump in and take a fraction above levels you devils (even money).

Carroll has reached for the blinkers. Not the best sign in some ways. After a number of hard races, you have to wonder if this colt is starting to regress. At short betting odds, it isn't, perhaps, the time to take a gamble.

I would have to take a watching brief.

Tuesday's 2YO Update

I seem to be running out of time so a quick note of significant entered horses.

1:50 Leicester -

Secret Venture, trained by Kevin Ryan. This son of Kyllachy cost £85,000 when purchased at the yearling sales. The stable have done well this season with their noted juveniles.

Triple One hasn't received any entries at present. Michael Bell's charge was fancied in the betting on debut at Beverley but clueless. The betting that day may indicate ability. Priced at 10/1, I would imagine he will be backed if fancied today. The stable go well with fancied juveniles on their second start. If strong in the market could indicate a transformation.

2:00 Redcar -

Comete ran in a Class 2 race on debut at Newcastle. This daughter of Cammacho was pretty fancied in the betting considering it was a race worth almost £13,000. I can imagine connections expected a big run. Having a couple of months off course suggests there may have been a slight issue or given time to grow. The betting indicates there is better to come.

Tom Dascombe has a couple of nice prospects with Arthur Kitt and Jackstar. Jensue is, perhaps, not in their league but respected enough to contest the Lily Agnes Stakes. She was slow away at Chester, as she was a touch outpaced at Beverley on debut. However, both starts, she has finished with gusto. This extra furlong should suit and by all accounts (on race type) this is a drop in class.

2:10 Lingfield -

Gypsy Spirit won on debut at Windsor for Tom Clover. The form of that race is ok without being anything special. Interesting that the trainer had this filly earmarked for the Marygate Listed race at York but didn't take that route. I imagine connections thought this step up to 6f would have seen her struggling for pace at the Navesmire. She has to shoulder a 4lb win penalty and wide draw.

3:50 Leicester -

Glorious Dane has been noted by Richard Hannon.

6:40 Wolverhampton -

Finoah has shown ability in a couple of starts. Interesting to see Simon Crisford has Sporting Chance noted as having ability. Considering he has a couple of decent horses to judge this breeze-up purchase, money would bring further confidence.

A Profile of Ghost Serge Trained by Archie Watson

Trainers come and go. Rookie trainers can find they have a limited shelf life if backed by others money. It must be a hard-fought existence when your success or failings rest on each horse achieving something to keep the devil off your back.

One thing every newbie trainer needs is a touch of luck or a bloody good horse to prove they know their job.

Archie Watson must have thanked his lucky stars that he had not one, two, three but more talents at Saxon Gate, Upper Lambourn, West Berkshire.

Looking at today's racing I see Ghost Serge takes part at Lingfield (1:30).

This grey son of Zebedee was always held in some regard by Watson, receiving a number of significant entries through his two-year-old season. An impressive 7-length winner on debut then following up under a penalty at Carlisle. Ghost Serge did little wrong when heading to France when beaten in the final strides at Listed class. In some respects, he disappointed thereafter. The latest performance when fourth at Kempton saw him struggle to give weight to a couple of horses with huge reputations noted on Group Horse (Daily) with Walk In The Sun (Jeremy Noseda) and First Contact (Charlie Appleby) cruising clear of the field by 8-lengths.

Ghost Serge has been somewhat hindered by the win penalty and finds himself racing for a prize of £3,752.02.

Watson entered a number of juveniles last season and they have continued to show ample ability.
