Mark Johnston has a vast string of two-year-olds and few have the size or scope of West End Charmer (pictured). This son of Nathaniel disappointed on debut but ran out an easy winner second time out at Windsor. He hasn't been seen for over two months. Stepping up in distance to 1m 2f. A win penalty makes life a little harder. However, this mighty colt shouldn't be too burdened. Priced 2/5f suggests the opposition have their work cut out today.

Richard Hughes has achieved more this year with his two-year-olds than previously. He always seemed very disappointing. However, this has been a productive season. Pink Iceberg has been kept busy with five starts to date. This daughter of Kodiac won well at Yarmouth. Has run well on most starts and not disgraced last time at Listed class when a 50/1 shot. Has to shoulder a win penalty which isn't easy.
Summer Blossom had been a model of consistency. She was beaten favourite at Catterick. It may be the case the first two horses are fair. However, it could be that this Irish-bred daughter of Society Rock is treading water. After so many races, it is a distinct possibility she is regressing. This race will tell us more.
Nice to see Brian Barr with a two-year-old. Haats Off started in the Brocklesby Stakes and has done connections proved in her six starts to date. It proves Barr is selective with placing his filly. This January foal hasn't managed to get her head in front but run a number of fine races for the grade. She ran well at Leicester last time out when racing over 6f. She likes testing conditions so it may be positive if the ground is softer than not.

Note: Good to see Summer Blossom win today. It must be the case she bumped into a couple of decent horses last time at Catterick. Pink Iceberg showed pace but tired into third, while Haats Off plugged on for place money.
6:45 Newcastle -
Tom Dascombe has Drogon racing here. This son of Zoffany's form has been a touch up and down. He won well second time out at Haydock before being outclassed at Group 2. An official rating of 93 details a talented horse. Needs to defy the win penalty.

Note: Drogon ran well under a penalty but wasn't good enough to beat debutante Jack Berry House who won at 80/1. The winner, trained by Michael Easterby, looks a decent prospect and would have been an unlucky loser after being short of room.
1:30 Catterick -
Archie Watson's Summer Blossom is as consistent as they come. Did nothing wrong last time out when leading for most and just outpointed in the closing stages. A battling type who is likely to try to lead. Deserves to taste victory. I'm always slightly concerned juveniles with a number of hard races may regress at some point. However, this daughter of Society Rock is a hearty type.

Catan put in a bold show last time out for Roger Charlton. Backed from huge odds, no doubt a consequence of certain people knowing this colt was going to do front-running tactics. Under a weight penalty, he ran a sterling race being collared in the shadow of the post.

Exalted Angel
This son of Dark Angel cost 150,000 euros at the yearling sales. Burke can win with his debutants. Most hold fair each-way claims when priced 10/1 & less SP. * Has been seriously backed from 14/1 on Betfair to 7/2 with bookmakers at present.

Just a Class 2 entry which suggests not one of the better Richard Hannon juveniles. Not too fancied in the betting on both starts to date but ran out a respectable second last time at Sandown.

Interesting to see Michael Bell's debutante has been given a significant entry. This Irish-bred son of Mastercraftsman is out of a debut-winning mare who raced a pattern class. This bay colt cost 110,000 guineas. Looks well found in the market. Running over a mile gives debutantes time to find their feet but they can be hit and miss.
Wave Walker
One of just four horses entered by Sylvester Kirk. He is a good judge. This chestnut colt ran well on debut when seriously backed. The form of that race looks fair although that was only an auction race. The statistics second start suggested a big run but that was far from the truth with a lacklustre display. I can't help think that was a disappointment and much better could be seen today. Kirk does well at Salisbury, as does J C Smith. Interesting to see how he goes.

We don't see too many significantly entered two-year-olds going for Claiming races but Gay Kelleway is taking that option with Elieden. This daughter of Camacho has an official rating of 71 which tells the story of a limited horse but one that has enough ability to win a race. She has been entered for a few race this year showing glimmers of ability. Looks like connections are dropping in class to gain that first elusive win.

William Haggas has a decent string of juveniles and Dalaalaat is making his debut today. This son of Kingman is worthy of respect.
Voltaic has run well on both starts to date and has valuable experience on side. This chestnut son of Power ran well in the Convivial Maiden Stakes at York, the one significant entry he has received. Stepping up to one mile. A decent juvenile at odds of 6/1.
Conclusion: Just the two significant entrants here. Paul Cole's Voltaic could well hit the frame at each way odds. Dalaalaat is in one of Haggas' best betting guides which give hope but will need to be a fair talent to win on debut.

Big old fields.
Saeed bin Suroor has definitely achieved more this two-year-old season. It makes a change after being given the lesser lights for far too long. Royal Meeting is fancied to go well here after a recent Class 2 entry. Not the easiest horse to assess.
Charlie Appleby has given Aquanura similar entry. He has run well on both starts to date and sets a decent standard.
Other significant entrants include Alrajaa. Fancied on both starts to date and beaten favourite at Sandown when fading tamely in the final furlong. I can imagine connections were a little disappointed with that effort.
Clipper Logistics is no stranger to decent two-year-olds and Victory Day makes his debut for William Haggas. This son of Bated Breath cost £270,000 at the yearling sales. Interesting that he received a Gimcrack Stakes (Group 2) entry some time back but no other entries since. It may indicate he had a set back at some point. Haggas does well at this course. I would prefer To see this youngster priced 13/2 & less SP to hold best chances but not without a hope.
Conclusion: Looks like a four-horse race on betting. Not the easiest of races to assess. The two debutantes [Royal Meeting & Victory Day] will need to be pretty smart on debut to beat the form horses although they may not have lived up to expectation. I would have to take a watching brief.

Sir Michael Stoute has noted Sovereign Grant. He ran well on debut when running on in the closing stages, giving the impression the race was needed. Almost three weeks off course, and sure to be fitter this time around.
The only other entrant noted by the trainer is David Simcock's Wiretap. Not the easiest of horses to assess and a horse who gives the impression has had a few issues along the way, which isn't ideal. Was fancied on debut at Yarmouth but easily beaten. However, the form of that race has turned out to be very good. Doesn't look fancied in the betting. If seriously backed to 13/2 & less SP would have much better claims. Keep an eye on the betting.
